Cluster History
III – IV Quarter 2002
- Dr. Alec Hansen of the Economic
Competitiveness Group presented the concept of cluster-based economic
development to the Terre Haute, Indiana area.
- DADC Sony hosted Dr. Hansen for a presentation
to manufacturers and hosted additional meetings to discuss the
cluster concept.
I – II Quarter 2003
- Exchanged visits with the Manufacturing
Cluster in Danville, Illinois; a group
recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education as one of
the top manufacturing/education partnerships in Illinois.
III – IV Quarter 2003
- Named our cluster the Wabash Valley Advanced
Manufacturing Cluster.
- Established initial focus as workforce
development.
- Our organizations have become leaner,
and hiring criteria for people
to operate our facilities has become tighter.
- Average candidate rejects
70%.
- Increase skills and marketability of
workforce candidates.
- Unprecedented demands on the WorkOne system.
- The cluster is a call to Wabash Valley
manufacturers to come
together.
- Established a strategic structure and plan.
- Aligned with the Western Indiana Workforce
Investment Board.
I – II Quarter 2004
- Six working teams established
goals and objectives.
- Monthly membership meetings.
- Media spotlight.
III – IV Quarter 2004
- WVAMC/WorkOne Campaign Implementation
- General Managers meeting.
- Meetings with support resources.
- Pilot Skills 1 training program.
