Cluster History

III – IV Quarter 2002

  • Dr. Alec Hansen of the Economic Competitiveness Group presented the concept of cluster-based economic development to the Terre Haute, Indiana area.
  • DADC Sony hosted Dr. Hansen for a presentation to manufacturers and hosted additional meetings to discuss the cluster concept.


I – II Quarter 2003

  • Exchanged visits with the Manufacturing Cluster in Danville, Illinois; a group
    recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education as one of the top manufacturing/education partnerships in Illinois.


III – IV Quarter 2003

  • Named our cluster the Wabash Valley Advanced Manufacturing Cluster.
  • Established initial focus as workforce development.
    • Our organizations have become leaner, and hiring criteria for people
      to operate our facilities has become tighter.
    • Average candidate rejects 70%.
    • Increase skills and marketability of workforce candidates.
    • Unprecedented demands on the WorkOne system.
    • The cluster is a call to Wabash Valley manufacturers to come
      together.
  • Established a strategic structure and plan.
  • Aligned with the Western Indiana Workforce Investment Board.


I – II Quarter 2004

  • Six working teams established goals and objectives.
  • Monthly membership meetings.
  • Media spotlight.

III – IV Quarter 2004

  • WVAMC/WorkOne Campaign Implementation
  • General Managers meeting.
  • Meetings with support resources.
  • Pilot Skills 1 training program.
