What is It?

The implementation of a WorkOne system was mandated under the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998. Local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) were established by the WIA to oversee and direct workforce development activities in areas which are designated as Workforce Service Areas.

Another provision of the WIA is the establishment of WorkOne centers. Each Workforce Service Area must have at least one full service WorkOne center, and may have what are designated as WorkOne Express centers throughout the workforce service area. The WorkOne is a cooperative effort that includes a consortium of partner agencies working together to develop a seamless delivery and referral system. The Western Indiana consortium partners are:

    • Department of Workforce Development
    • Indiana State University
    • Ivy Tech Community College
    • Office of Vocational Rehabilitation
    • Terre Haute Housing Authority
    • Vigo County School Corporation
    • Western Indiana Employment and Training Services, Inc.
    • Western Indiana Community Action Agency
